Assurant received a perfect score of 100 on the 2019 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), the nation’s premier benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality. The index is administered annually by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation, the educational arm of America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual transgender and queer people.
The 2019 CEI evaluates LGBTQ-related policies and practices, including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBTQ community. Assurant’s efforts in satisfying all of the CEI’s criteria resulted in a 100 percent ranking and the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.
“At Assurant, we believe it is important that our company reflects the world around us,” said Alan Colberg, president and CEO of Assurant. “Everywhere we operate, our goal is to attract, hire and retain a talented mix of employees - with varied experiences, backgrounds and perspectives - who embrace our values. Receiving this acknowledgement from the HRC Foundation is a wonderful recognition of our commitment and the common decency and mutual respect our employees embrace and live by each day.”
In 2017, Colberg signed the CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion pledge, joining more than 150 other CEOs to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Last year, the company introduced a Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Council, a group of employees selected to help shape and implement the company’s diversity and inclusion strategy with the goal of enabling Assurant to be a best place to work and learn and, ultimately, drive innovation and stronger business results.
