From bake sales and blood drives to races and renovations, Assurant employees donate their time and give back to the communities where they live and work.

“Whether it’s swinging hammers or crafting creative ways to raise money for important causes, there’s a sense of pride and unwavering enthusiasm in all our Assurant employees do to give back in their hometowns,” says Shawn Kahle, executive director, Assurant Foundation and vice president, corporate communications, Assurant. "We honor and celebrate their dedicated service and generous contributions during National Volunteer Week.”
Assurant supports employees’ commitment to service by providing one day a year of paid time off to volunteer, and matching gifts help employee charitable donations go further. Other outreach programs of the Assurant Foundation include charitable grants and the Company’s annual United Way campaign. The Assurant Foundation 2013 Community Giving Report highlights employee volunteerism as well as financial support provided to Assurant’s charitable partners.
In 2013, Assurant employees donated hundreds of volunteer hours and Assurant provided more than $2.3 million in charitable grants to support nonprofit organizations during the year. The Assurant Foundation and employees also raised $1.6 million in donations to support local United Way chapters.
“Our employees and the Assurant Foundation’s philanthropic efforts are an extension of our proud history of service to our customers and in the communities where we operate,” adds Kahle. “Our employees and charitable partners help us bring the ‘Assurant Cares’ message to life every day.”
Established in 1974 by the Points of Light, National Volunteer Week runs from April 6-12, 2014 and recognizes those who engage their communities and inspire others to take action.
