Assurant has been named a 2020 Women on Boards Winning ‘W’ Company for 2015. The distinction is the non-profit grassroots campaign’s highest recognition, given to companies for having 20 percent of its board of directors comprised of women.
Assurant’s board includes female leaders with strong executive and financial experience. Elaine D. Rosen serves as non-executive chair of Assurant’s board of directors, a position held since November 2010. Elyse Douglas was elected to the board of directors in July 2011. She is a member of the board’s audit committee and chair of its finance and risk committee.
“As we mark the close of Women’s History Month, we recognize the special significance of this honor. We are grateful for the immeasurable impact women have made on global history and acknowledge the important contributions of Assurant’s female leadership in our boardroom, on our management committee and throughout the company,” said Assurant President and CEO Alan B. Colberg. “We believe the inclusion of voices from a variety of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives advances innovation that is critical to building a stronger Assurant for the future.”
Assurant was one of 1,820 leading U.S. businesses ranked by 2020 Women on Boards, a national non-profit campaign dedicated to increasing the percentage of women on corporate boards to 20 percent by the year 2020. Companies are evaluated and placed into four categories based on their percentage of female board members. The 'W' award recognizes companies with 20 percent or more of their board members being comprised of women.
“We are very pleased to honor Assurant, Inc. for their commitment to boardroom diversity,” said Malli Gero, president and co-founder, 2020 Women on Boards. “We look forward to seeing them on the Winning ‘W’ Company list for years to come.”
In 2015, Assurant also was recognized by the Women’s Forum of New York as a corporate game changer for the gender diversity of its board of directors.
